Inspired by the Spirit of Salvador: Ron Colon Salvaderno

ABOUT RON COLON SALVADERENO

Excited to share that Ron Colon is coming to the U.S. Their story starts in 2018 with two friends, Thurman Wise and Pepijin Janssens, venturing on a 22-Day, 16-Country  Latin American Bar Hop. It was during this adventure that Little El Salvador ("Sivar" in Slang) captured their attention.

When they arrived in "Sivar", they were dazzled by the country's pristine beauty and true grit. It's there when they decided to create a product that would showcase the honest yet rich and colorful "Sivar".

THE NAME RON COLON

In the early 16th century, Spanish Conquistador Pedro de Alvarado named the newly discovered province of El Salvador after Jesus Christ (“The Savior”) and in 1892, the government of President Carlos Ezeta decided that the Salvadoran peso be called Colón”; in homage to Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón in Spanish) “discoverer”; of America. The Colón stayed the currency of El Salvador until 2001, when it was replaced by the U.S. Dollar. When the colonists traded with Native Americans, it was often rum they used as currency. In the 17th Century, sugar cane and its associated products were to the world powers what oil and its products are today. Wars were fought with and for sugar and its spirited offspring, rum. And while we don’t fight wars of them anymore today, their powerful history remains.

TEAM

What started off with two passionate people soon spread and morphed into a task-team of six. The unique creative talent of Chris Rehberger and his Berlin based team at Double Standards managed to visualize the true essence of El Salvador. Andres Trigueros and his family at Jags Heads Coffee privileged us not only to collaborate with one of the most interesting coffee farms in El Salvador, but moreover opened their homes to us and offered a deeper insight into their own culture and history. Felicity Gransden joined to offer her unique talent in flavor innovations, and last but not least, Tobias Jegenstam was brought onto the team to bring his wizz-skills within social media. The RCS team was born.
