Immersed in Asian Excellence: 88rising's Moonrise Gala Presented by Johnnie Walker

This past weekend in Los Angeles, the Lunar New Year festivities reached a crescendo with the inaugural Moonrise Gala, presented by Johnnie Walker. Hosted by the music collective and record label, 88rising, the event transformed Hollywood's Milk Studios into a vibrant celebration of Asian artistry across generations.

Honoring Pioneering Voices

The night's essence was one of recognition, shining a light on trailblazers who paved the way for contemporary Asian talent. From music icons like Anderson .Paak, Jackson Wang, and NIKI to the visionary director of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," Destin Daniel Cretton, the honorees represented diverse fields and eras. Even legends like dance-pop singer Jocelyn Enriquez and the Bay Area's Invisibl Skratch Piklz received their due, underscoring the event's commitment to showcasing the full spectrum of Asian excellence.

A Multi-Sensory Experience

Stepping into the venue was like stepping into another world. The arched red tunnel entrance, dripping with fringe, led guests into a space pulsating with energy. Dazzling LED pendant lights cast an otherworldly glow, while delectable Wagyu beef sliders, curries, and some amazing cocktails were served throughout the event.

Cocktails that Took Us on a Journey

Johnnie Walker, the event's presenting sponsor, elevated the experience with their innovative cocktails. Each drink was a meticulously crafted masterpiece, transporting guests to different corners of the world through flavor and presentation.

  • Dollar Bills: This playful concoction featuring Johnnie Walker Black Label, kumquat cordial, and a touch of cucumber bitters was garnished with an edible dollar bill.

  • Dragon's Lair: Exuding mystique, this blend of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, roasted barley syrup, and almond bitters was adorned with blossom foam, evoking the image of a mythical creature's lair.

  • Moonwalker: This ethereal mix of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, lime, melon syrup, and hibiscus tea, complete with dry ice smoke, took guests on a lunar adventure with every sip.

Where Cocktails Met Innovation

Each cocktail ordered initiated a video playing on the unique bar top, showcasing the origins and flavors of the key components. Whether it was the zesty tang of the kumquat in the "Dollar Bills" or the intriguing smokiness of the roasted barley in the "Dragon's Lair," the digital bar animatedly presented the ingredients.

Johnnie Walker’s National Ambassador Yan Agaev says, “The videos were design to captivate attendees with visual allure and build anticipation for this tasting experience. It’s a sensory journey extending beyond the glass, transforming each cocktail into a mini-adventure.”

More Than Just an Event

The Moonrise Gala wasn't just a party; it was a powerful statement about representation and legacy. As Sean Miyashiro, 88rising's founder, expressed, the event was about giving "flowers" to those who deserve them, inspiring a new generation with the stories and achievements of those who came before.

A Night to Remember

The Moonrise Gala, presented by Johnnie Walker, was a resounding success. It was a night filled with music, recognition, and delicious surprises, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
