Lunch + Cocktails at RumFish y Vino :: Ventura County Coast
This week we are excited to share some highlights from our trip to the Ventura County Coast.
Our first stop takes us to lunch at Rumfish y Vino - a hip new Gastro-Bar located in the heart of downtown Ventura.
We are greeted by savvy head mixologist Jeff Johnston, who was excited to share some of his home made bitters and creative recipes he rotates through year around at Rumfish y Vino. The restaurant is actually a second venture since the Rumfish tradition really started in the Virgin Islands as we learned from the lively owners who came to greet us.
Dragon Fruit Caipiroska
To open our palates, Jeff begins with the lively hued Dragon Fruit Caipiroska, a vodka based version of the famous Brazilian Smash - the Caipirinha. Jeff mixes cane sugar, fresh lime, dragon fruit infused vodka, soda water and a lavender garnish to play with your senses.
Habanero Gimlet
The second drink's main attraction was Jeff's homemade Habanero bitters. With those, Jeff featured a Habanero Gimlet, mixing Tanqueray, fresh lime, simple syrup and the house habanero-lime bitters which add a kick to your evening or daytime if you're like me and prefers gin as a daytime sip.
Strawberry Caipirinhas
Finally, lunch at RumFish is served alongside another round of Strawberry Caipirinhas, made with local Agricole Rhum and of course, smashed local California strawberries.
Take a distillery tour with us at our next stop in VCC and don't forget to visit Ventura County Coast to find out more about this great beach community.
